AI Literacy for Academics Workshop Series

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has garnered significant attention and popularity in today’s world due to its enormous potential to transform people’s lives. The AI Literacy for Academics workshop series presents an overview of AI and explores its effective utilisation. Consisting of four workshops, this series offers an introduction to generative AI and retrieval AI, AI models and prompt engineering, as well as AI tools and bots. Additionally, the series provides participants with interactive practical sessions to explore various AI tools and their applications in diverse pedagogical contexts.


Workshop overview

Topic 1: Generative AI vs Retrieval AI

Date and time: 19 February 2024 (Monday) 3:30 - 5:30 pm (HKT)

 

Topic 2: AI Models and Prompt Engineering 

Date and time: 4 March 2024 (Monday) 3:30 - 5:30 pm (HKT)

 

Topic 3: AI Tools and Bots 

Date and time: 18 Mar 2024 (Monday) 3:30 - 5:30 pm (HKT)

 

Topic 4: Academic AI Tool Project

Date and time: 15 April 2024 (Monday) 4:30 - 5:30 pm (HKT)


Format: Online via Zoom

Target audience: CUHK Academic staff

Registration deadline: 5 February 2024 (Monday) 11:59 pm (HKT)


Please note that the workshops are practical and interactive with limited seats available. Seats will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis.


 

Speakers


Robert Dixon (MBA, BEng, PGC LTHE, FHEA, FIOEE)

A seasoned business leader, entrepreneur and respected academic, Robert excels in strategic management, specialising in AI applications for business and education. With 30 years' experience in both SME's and blue-chip firms, and over a decade in higher education, Robert merges theory with practice, delivering cutting-edge insights and preparing both professionals and senior executives for the AI revolution.  Robert has delivered AI Literacy and Strategy Workshops to various prestigious institutions and, as a Vistage speaker, to over 100 CEOs and business owners. His client list includes universities like Birmingham, Newcastle, King's College London, Royal Holloway, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, as well as companies like Analox Group, IPG, Principal Group, Brook Taverner, and Team Sport.


Dylan Humphreys (BSc(Hons) CeH JNCIS)

Dylan is a seasoned technology professional with over 25 years of experience in the ICT sector. He is a specialist in Artificial Intelligence, Prompt Engineering, and ChatGPT. Dylan is an ardent advocate of AI and has been involved with ChatGPT since its launch. He is continuously exploring new advancements and applications in the fields of Artificial Intelligence and Natural Programming Languages.
